RIQN Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how RIQN (“RIQN”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects information on riqn.com and in the RIQN math practice program. RIQN is designed for families with children in elementary school, so this policy also serves as our notice to parents under the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

In short: we collect only what children need to practice math, we never show ads or sell information, and parents can review, stop or delete their child’s information at any time.

1. Who we are and how to contact us

RIQN is operated by RIQN.

  • Email: advisor@riqn.com
  • Mailing address: RIQN Assessment Hub, Portage Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49024
  • Phone: +1 269-216-3653

Parents may contact us at any of the above with questions about this policy or about their child’s information.

2. How RIQN works for families

A parent creates an account and buys a license for a grade. The parent then sets up a learner profile for each child and gives the child a learning code to sign in. Children practice math questions, earn mastery skill by skill, and may take grade tests. Parents see results on the parent report. Children do not create their own accounts and are not asked for their email address or other contact details.

3. Information we collect from parents

  • Account information: your email address, phone number and password (stored securely in hashed form).
  • Order information: the products you buy and your order history, plus the billing details our payment processor needs to take the payment.
  • Payment information: card payments are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Messages you send us, such as support requests.
  • Settings and choices you make in your account, such as early-retake permissions and privacy controls.

4. Information we collect about children

We collect only the information needed for a child to practice and for a parent to follow progress:

  • Learner profile: a first name, nickname, or other learner label chosen by the parent, the grade, and an avatar picture chosen from our set. Please do not enter the child’s full legal name.
  • Learning activity: the questions shown, the answers given, scores, time taken, mastery progress, practice history and grade test results.
  • Sign-in information: a learning code (stored only in a protected, scrambled form) and a device token that keeps a trusted device signed in.
  • Technical information: the device’s internet (IP) address is used briefly to limit repeated sign-in attempts and protect accounts. It is not stored in the child’s learning record.

We do not ask for your child’s full name, school, teacher, date of birth, home address, email address, phone number, photos, voice or precise location, and children cannot post or share information publicly in RIQN. RIQN does not ask children to enter identifying information; their interaction with RIQN is limited to signing in with their learning code and using the learning program.

Read to Me: in Grades 1–2, the “Read to me” button uses the speech service built into the child’s device or browser. RIQN does not record the child’s voice or store audio from this feature.

5. How we use information

  • To run the practice program: choose the right questions, record answers, track mastery and run grade tests.
  • To show parents their child’s progress in the parent report.
  • To keep accounts secure, prevent misuse and fix problems.
  • To process orders, licenses, refunds and support requests.
  • To send parents service messages about their account, orders and their child’s progress. We send marketing emails only to parents who agree to receive them, and every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.

We do not use children’s information for advertising, to build marketing profiles, or for any purpose unrelated to RIQN’s learning service.

6. When we share information

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share information only with service providers who help us run RIQN, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing their service:

  • Website hosting: Hostinger.
  • Payment processing: Stripe (parents’ payment details only).
  • Email delivery: TBD (parents’ email addresses only).

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of a child or others, or as part of a sale or merger of RIQN, in which case this policy will continue to apply to the information transferred. We will not share children’s information with other third parties without the parent’s separate consent.

7. Parental consent and parents’ rights

We ask for a parent’s verifiable consent before collecting personal information from a child, except as COPPA otherwise permits. A parent account login by itself is not treated as verified consent. Signed-in parents can use the controls on our Children’s Privacy page to:

  • Review and download the information we hold about their child;
  • Stop any further collection of their child’s practice information (and resume it later);
  • Request deletion of their child’s information.

Parents may also make any of these requests by contacting us (Section 1). We will verify that the request comes from the child’s parent before acting on it. We complete deletion requests within 30 days. Stopping collection or deleting information means the child can no longer use the parts of RIQN that need it, such as practice history and grade tests.

8. How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as it is needed for the purposes above:

  • Unsubmitted practice answers are deleted automatically after 30 days.
  • Device sign-in tokens expire after 180 days; learning codes expire after 365 days.
  • Children’s learning records are kept while the family has an account and for 12 months after the last license ends, so families who renew keep their progress. After that, they are deleted.
  • Order and payment records about parents are kept as long as tax and accounting laws require.
  • Security records are kept for up to 24 months.

When information is deleted, it is removed from our live systems; copies in backups are overwritten in the normal backup cycle within 90 days.

9. How we protect information

We use reasonable safeguards for the information we hold: encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords and learning codes stored only in protected form, limits on repeated sign-in attempts, short-lived codes for early-retake approval, and access to the data limited to the people who need it to run RIQN. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect information and will notify affected parents as required by law if a breach occurs.

10. Cookies

RIQN uses cookies that are needed for the site to work. We do not use advertising cookies.

  • Family and learner cookies (riqn_household, riqn_learner): remember which family and learner is practicing on this device, for up to 180 days.
  • Child sign-in cookies (riqn_kid_device, riqn_child_session, riqn_kid_login_csrf): keep a trusted device signed in and protect the sign-in form.
  • Practice and test cookies: short-lived cookies (24 hours or less) that let a practice set or grade test be submitted safely.
  • WordPress and store cookies: keep parents signed in and remember the shopping cart.

We do not use third-party website analytics or tracking on children’s learning pages. If we add analytics to other parts of the site, we will update this policy first.

11. Parents’ privacy rights under state law

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of the sale of personal information or targeted advertising. RIQN does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. To exercise any right, contact us (Section 1). We will not treat you differently for making a request.

12. Children and age

RIQN is a program for parents to use with their children. Only adults may create parent accounts and make purchases. If we learn that we collected a child’s personal information without a parent’s consent, we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

If we make changes, we will update the effective date above. If a change affects how we collect or use children’s information, we will notify parents by email and ask for new consent where the law requires it before the change takes effect.
