Built by a Parent, for Parents

Hi, I’m Dr. Lifted, and I built RIQN for my own children.

Like many parents, I watched my children work hard at math. They could do their homework, explain what they were learning, and solve problems with me at the kitchen table.

Then their state test results came home, and the scores did not always reflect what I knew they could do.

That made me start paying closer attention.

I realized that knowing the math was only part of the challenge. My children also needed experience using those skills in the ways they might encounter them on assessments: mixed questions from across the year, word problems, questions that ask them to check someone else’s thinking, and working independently while a clock is running.

They knew many of the skills. They simply needed more practice applying them in different formats.

That is why I built RIQN.

What I Built

RIQN started as a way to help my own children practice. It grew into a math practice and grade-assessment program for children in Grades 1–5.

Adaptive Practice

Children work through grade-level math skills and get continued practice in areas where they still need more work.

As they build mastery, they progress through the module.

Three Kinds of Questions

RIQN gives children experience with different ways of thinking about math:

  • Solve it — solve the math directly.
  • Word problems — apply the skill in a real-world situation.
  • Check the thinking — decide whether another student’s reasoning or answer is correct.

The goal is to help children recognize and use a skill even when the question is presented differently.

Grade Tests

Each license includes 12 timed grade tests covering material from across the grade.

The tests mix skills, question types and difficulty levels so children can become more familiar with working through a broader assessment independently.

Clear Parent Reports

Parents should not have to guess where their child needs help.

RIQN’s Parent Report shows grade-test results along with module and skill-level information, helping parents see strengths and areas that may need more practice.

Read to Me for Grades 1–2

Early readers should be able to focus on the math rather than struggle with the wording of a question.

In Grades 1–2, RIQN includes a Read to Me option that can read questions and answer choices aloud using speech capabilities available through the child’s device or browser.

RIQN does not record the child’s voice or store audio from this feature.

What I Believe

Children do not need more pressure.

They need opportunities to practice, make mistakes, learn from explanations, and become comfortable solving problems independently.

Familiarity matters.

When a child has practiced a skill in different formats and knows what to expect, the experience of working through an assessment can feel less unfamiliar and intimidating.

I also believe parents deserve meaningful information about their child’s progress — not just stars, points or a single score.

That is why RIQN tracks learning skill by skill and gives parents reports they can actually use.

A Promise to Parents

I built RIQN as a parent first.

That means we aim to keep the experience focused on learning:

  • No advertising in the learning program
  • No selling personal information
  • Only the information needed to operate the learning service
  • Clear information for parents about progress and privacy

RIQN is built around grade-level Common Core State Standards for mathematics.

RIQN is an independent program. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any state, testing company, the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, or the Council of Chief State School Officers.

I cannot promise a particular test score or academic result. Every child is different.

What RIQN can provide is focused grade-level practice, experience with varied question formats, grade assessments, and a clearer picture of progress along the way.

RIQN began because I wanted something better for my own children.

My hope is that it can help other families too.

If you have a question, suggestion or idea, I would be glad to hear from you at Coach@riqn.com.
