About RIQN

What is RIQN?

RIQN is an online math practice program for children in Grades 1–5. Children practice skills in their grade, build mastery skill by skill, and take timed grade tests that cover the whole year. Parents get a report showing where their learner is strong and which areas may need more practice.

Who built RIQN, and why?

RIQN was built by a dad. His children understood their math at home, but their state test scores didn’t show it. The problem was the format: they rarely practiced mixed questions from the whole year, word problems and “is this answer right?” questions under a time limit. RIQN gives children that practice. You can read more on our About page.

Which grades does RIQN cover?

Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Each grade has 12 modules broken into specific skills. You can see every module and skill on our Curriculum page.

Is RIQN aligned to Common Core?

Yes. Every RIQN skill is built around a grade-level Common Core State Standard for math, and the Curriculum page lists the standard for each skill. RIQN is an independent program and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the organizations that publish Common Core.

Does RIQN match my state’s standards and tests?

Many states use the Common Core math standards or based their own standards on them, so most skills will match. Some states use their own standards, and a few topics may be taught in a different grade. RIQN prepares children for the kinds of questions found on end-of-year tests, but it is not a copy of any state test and is not affiliated with any testing company. If you’d like to know how RIQN fits your state, email us.

Does RIQN replace school or tutoring?

No. RIQN is extra practice that works alongside your child’s school. Many families use it for a short session a few times a week, and before state testing season.

Getting Started

Which grade should I buy?

Most families choose the grade their child is in now. If your child is struggling with earlier skills, the grade below can help fill gaps first. If you are not sure, the Curriculum page shows exactly what each grade covers.

Can two of my children share one license?

No. RIQN uses a one learner, one grade, one license model. Each learner needs their own license so practice history, mastery progress and 12 grade tests remain separate. Each additional eligible license purchased through the same parent account is currently $19.99.

How does my child sign in?

After you buy a license, RIQN gives you a learning code for that learner. You’ll find it on the order confirmation page and in My Children. Your child goes to riqn.com/kids and enters the code. On a trusted device, the code isn’t needed every time: after 10 minutes without activity, your child is signed out and can tap Continue Practice or enter the code again. Children don’t need their own email address or password.

What devices does RIQN work on?

RIQN works in a web browser on a computer, laptop, Chromebook or tablet. There’s no app to install. Each learning code works on up to 4 trusted household devices, and you can see or remove them in My Children → Manage devices. A larger screen is best for grade tests.

How much time should my child spend on RIQN?

Short, regular sessions work best. 15–20 minutes a few times a week is a good start, with a grade test about once a month to check progress.

Practice and Mastery

How does adaptive practice work?

Your child practices one module at a time. RIQN tracks each skill separately and keeps giving practice on the skills your child hasn’t mastered yet, then moves on once a skill is mastered. Each answer comes with an explanation, so mistakes become learning.

What are the three kinds of questions?

“Solve it” questions practice the skill directly. Word problems put the math into real situations. “Check the thinking” questions show another student’s answer and ask whether it is correct, which builds the reasoning that tests increasingly ask for. Using all three helps children recognize a skill however the question is asked.

How many questions are there?

More than 80,000 question variations across Grades 1–5, so children keep seeing fresh questions instead of memorizing answers.

What is Read to Me?

In Grades 1–2, questions include a Read to Me option that can read the question and answer choices aloud so early readers can focus on the math. The feature uses speech capabilities available through the learner’s device or browser. RIQN does not record the child’s voice or store audio from this feature.

Grade Tests

How do grade tests work?

Each grade test has 50 questions drawn from all 12 modules of the grade, the way end-of-year tests cover the whole year. Tests are timed: 45 minutes in Grade 1 and 60 minutes in Grades 2–5. Questions mix the three kinds and include easier and harder levels.

How many tests does my child get?

Each license includes 12 grade tests for its learner. Each test uses a different set of questions. Once a test has been used, it does not reset simply because another license is later purchased for the same learner and grade.

Why is there a wait between tests?

The current waiting period is 7 days. This gives the learner time to practice between tests rather than repeatedly taking tests without additional learning time. A parent can allow an earlier test through the parent controls. An early test still uses one of the learner’s 12 available grade tests.

What happens if the page closes during a test?

Answers are saved as your child goes. Your child can reopen the test and continue. The timer keeps running while the page is closed, and the test is submitted automatically when time runs out.

Do test results change my child’s practice?

No. Grade tests measure progress; they don’t change practice levels. The parent report uses test results to show which modules and skills need more attention.

Will RIQN raise my child’s test scores?

We can’t promise a particular score, because every child is different. What RIQN does is give your child steady practice with every skill in the grade, in the formats tests use, and show you exactly where to focus. Children who have seen those formats many times tend to walk into test day calmer and more confident.

Parents

What does the parent report show?

The Parent Report shows grade-test results, including scores and dates, along with module and skill-level information. Parents can review the results associated with the learners and licenses on their account and see how many grade tests have been used.

Can I control when my child takes tests?

Yes. The waiting period between tests applies automatically, and only a parent can allow an early retake.

Pricing and Account

How much does RIQN cost?

RIQN is currently $39.99 per license. Each license covers one learner, one grade, and 12 months of access. Eligible additional licenses purchased through the same parent account are currently $19.99 each. See our Pricing page for current pricing and details.

What happens after 12 months?

Your license does not renew automatically, so you are never charged without choosing to. You can buy a new license for the same grade or the next grade.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 7 days of purchase, as long as no more than 1 grade test has been taken using that license. Using practice during those 7 days does not affect your refund. See our Refund Policy for details.

How do I pay?

You pay securely at checkout by credit or debit card, processed securely by Stripe. Payments are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.

Privacy and Safety

What information does RIQN collect about my child?

RIQN is designed so that we do not need to know your child’s full identity. A parent creates the learner profile and chooses a learner label, grade and avatar. Please use a first name, nickname or other learner label rather than the child’s full legal name. RIQN records information needed to provide the learning service, such as questions shown, answers, scores, mastery progress, practice history, grade-test results, learning-code credentials and limited technical information needed to operate and secure the service. We do not ask for the child’s school, teacher, date of birth, home address, email address, phone number, photograph, voice recording or precise location. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why.

Are there ads on RIQN?

No. RIQN has no ads, and we never sell or share your family’s information for advertising.

Can I see or delete my child’s information?

Yes. From your parent account you can download your child’s data, stop further collection, or request deletion on our Children’s Privacy page, or by emailing us.
